Every once it a while you come across a stick of this funny-shaped Swix hardwax and say "where did that come from?" (at least I do). The answer is this wax kit from on about 1970. It must not have been too successful, because that is the only time I have ever seen wax in that shape.
The idea was simple: blue for below freezing, purple for at freezing (0/32), and red for above freezing. Blue is a good wax, and purple can be handy, but to this day no one has found a use for Swix red hardwax. (All wax nerds know that Rode red is the one and only.)
There is no cork to smooth the wax; that is what the leather in your glove is for. And the chip in the front panel is due to the fact that this very kit was carried with the Birkebeiners as they spirited the young Prince Hakkon off to safety. It was a rough trip.
I don't know what the sticker on the back was about, but it's from Norway so I left it on.
