RARE FIND! - Never used pair of 1960s "Kloa" cross-country ski racing bindings from Norway. "Kloa" means "claw" in Norwegian, and from its appearance, one can understand why the bindings earned this name. Unlike other Nordic ski bindings of the era, which clamped the boot toe down on a set of pins, the Kloa style depended on a two-pronged fork to pierce the boot toe from the top and meet the base of the binding below (see last picture - example only - NOT the bindings for sale).

This design resulted in a binding that weighed approx 60gm less per pair than a standard Rottefella (Fenix) butterfly-wing binding that was popular at the time. Due to the still-bulky nature of racing skis of the era, the ability to save a gram here and there was highly valued.

At this point in the evolution of Nordic ski bindings, most manufacturers still produced 2 or 3 sizes: a "smal"/narrow, which measured approx 71mm across where the pins would be on a standard 3-pin binding; a "bred"/wide, which measured 79mm; and a third width (which soon became the standard) of 75mm. These varying widths were produced to accommodate the boots that had historically been produced, and still were being produced, at the time; Boots soon adopted the 75mm width as standard.

The item for sale is a "smal", made for smaller boots; however a 75mm toe should be able to fit in.

Style: top-down "claw"
Width: 71mm
Weight (pr) excluding screws: 110gm
Distance between bottom screw holes: approx 27mm
