Here at Skifabrikk, we don't sell a lot of jumping skis, so when we do you can rest assured that they are pretty special. On our last trip to Norway these Kongsberg wood skis from the late 1950s/early 1960s caught our eye and we couldn't pass them up. Then we had to figure out how to get them back to the USA - 250cm ski bags are not readily available, even in Norway!
Kongsberg is a municipality in southern Norway, a little over an hour to the west of Oslo. Originally a silver mining town, Kongsberg attracted many German immigrants, who took up ski jumping as a winter pastime. Olympic champions Birger Ruud and Petter Hugsted hailed from Kongsberg. The Kongsberg Skifabrikk ran from the late 1930s until the early 1970s, producing wood cross-country and jumping skis. This pair is a great example of the factory's output.
With a length of 230cm and width of 85mm (~3.5 in), each of these babies tips the scale at over 3kg (6 1/2 lbs) BEFORE bindings. The bindings themselves are the famous Kandahar brand, produced by Gresvig of Oslo.
We don't expect you to build a jump in the back yard and have a go with these beasts, but we won't blame you (or take any responsibility!) if you try. Safer just to lean them in the corner and drool.
SHIPPING: These are a pain in the butt to ship. They are long and heavy, and far exceed USPS limits. As far as international shipping, unless you own a Saudi oilfield you probably won't be able to afford the cost. But if you do, contact us for a quote. Back to domestic - here's how we work:
-> New England, eastern NY, eastern PA, NJ, Quebec south of the St. Lawrence, and across the river into the Laurentians - $100 flat fee courier service by a dedicated Skifabrikk employee. Delivery time will be within 2 weeks of purchase.
-> Southern Ontario; all of Michigan (UP & mitten), WI, MN; northern OH, IN, IL; eastern IA (why not?) - $100 flat fee courier service by a dedicated Skifabrikk employee THIRD WEEK OF FEBRUARY 2024.
-> Any other place in the USA - contact us for a quote
-> Another option is the "u pick" service, meaning you pick up the skis in northern NJ, near EWR airport, and take them home yourself. Optional rental of a really long jumping ski bag is $50, with a refundable $150 deposit required - the latter will be returned upon safe return of the bag by you.
