The Gjøvik Skifabrikk in Norway produced wooden skis for nearly 50 years. The factory marketed their product under the name "Toppen", which means "the top" in Norwegian. These skis themselves were the top-of-the-line for the time they were produced; the mid 1960s.
Let's dive right in - Norway's Hallgeir Brenden was one of world's best cross-country skiers in the 1950s. He won medals at the 1952 (Oslo), 1956 (Cortina), and 1960 (Squaw Valley) Olympics. After retiring, he lent his name to the Toppen brand to grace their lightest racing skis. And light they are - with a balsa core, these skis check in at under 2,000 grams, including a beautiful pair of Rottefella "Fenix" 3-pin 75mm bindings.
The bases are a gorgeous hickory; only light-colour tar has been used so the grain really shows through. The wood has been smoothed to perfection, with base wax polished to a ready-for-snow shine!
NOTE: The bindings will be removed prior to shipment of the skis to prevent damage to the bases. If the buyer does not want the bindings, Skifabrikk will reduce the price of the skis by $10.
