If the seller had told us that these skis had never been used, we might have believed him. They are gorgeous. We took an entire day to drive to get them, and WAY overpaid. YOU are the beneficiary; who cares about margins?
You really CAN determine within a couple of years when most Järvinen skis were made, because part of their graphics included bragging about all the medals that their skis had won in the Olympics (Olympia) and world championships (maailman-mestaruus). Up and to the right for the legendary brand from Lahti.
All the cool decals are nearly fresh-from-the-factory intact, except for one tip logo. Under-the-foot stickers further detail the brand's accomplishments. You can spend an afternoon typing the text into Google translate to see what it says.
We didn't have to do much to clean these up - wipe down the tops and scrub/light sand the bases. While these skis have been used, it's not clear that they ever had pine tar applied. That isn't uncommon in very cold climates where you're not too worried about water penetrating the bases. These skis were picked up in Jyväskylä in Central Finland, and I am guessing it's pretty nippy there most of the winter.
