Beautiful pair of rare 215cm wood racing skis from our friend Esko Järvinen in Lahti, Finland. This pair is a matching numbers set with a catch - the bases have different construction. One is wide hickory strips, while the other is a "seersucker" lamination technique that showed up in Järvinen skis from time-to-time. See pic and flick.
Here's how this works: despite what I initially thought, skis don't come out of a ski machine in pairs. They come out individually, and then are matched with a like ski, and then stamped. This matching process, especially back in the olden days, could be highly subjective. This pair is a match in other significant ways, most importantly camber, so I guess the ski matching person said "ok good enough". They are definitely special, and they can be YOURS!
NOTE: The original 4-pin bindings will be removed prior to shipment of the skis to prevent damage to the bases. If the buyer does not want the bindings, Skifabrikk will reduce the price of the skis by $10.
