If I could pick one make/model of wood skis that is most sought after by enthusiasts, it's birch base Järvinens. Well, here they are. Esko Järvinen of Lahti, Finland, was already an accomplished ski racer when he decided to apply his knowledge to the manufacture of skis. This is an early example of his "Erikoiskilpa" (special racing) skis - they hail from 1961-62 based on the content of the "Mestari" logo at the top of each ski.

What is remarkable is that the decals on these nearly 65-year-old skis are almost entirely intact. The manufacture process involved applying paint and then waterslide decals on top, which without any protection were subject to damage. These decals on these skis have survived, and are now protected by a coat of urethane finish. The result is beautiful!

Break out those old leather boots with 6 holes in the sole, or mount something fancy and modern. Whether in your lounge on display or occasionally out on the trails, these skis are true champions!
