EXTREMELY RARE - "new old stock" Eggen Type 1 (birch base/hickory edge) wood racing skis. Size 210. Eggen skis were manufactured from the late 60s until the early 80s at the Engerdal Skifabrikk in east-central Norway, on the border with Sweden. Gjermund Eggen, hero of the 1966 Nordic World Championships in Oslo, lent his name to the brand and supported its growth after his racing career ended.

These skis are a remarkable find - never mounted, never used, pulled from a basement during a recent buying trip to Norway. The "Type 1" model was the lightest wood racing ski made by Eggen, and this pair weighs a remarkable 1535gm which is only slightly more than current fiberglass racing skis. The brand was an innovator when it came to the design of skis, layering wood in a manner to allow air channels in the ski, reducing weight. The birch base was preferred by racers due to its lightness compared to more common hickory, and its performance in certain snow conditions.

NOTE: per picture, there is a small piece of hickory missing from the lower edge of one of the skis. This should not affect performance. Price has been adjusted to reflect this defect.

Skifabrikk ski techs have over 50 years of experience skiing, racing, and preparing cross-country skis, both wood and fiberglass. Skifabrikk will, if requested by buyer, further smooth, tar, and base wax the skis prior to shipment, for FREE.
