Are these downhill skis? Are they backcountry skis? You be the judge. They LOOK like downhill skis from the early 60s, but when acquired in Norway (near Bergen) they were waxed for an outing in the forest. They could be both!

The Lommedalen Skifabrikk was the creation of Narve Bonna, 1924 Olympic silver medalist in ski jumping. Lommedalen is close to Oslo, a bit to the left of Holmenkollen. Birger Ruud was a champion ski jumper and alpine skier, with world championship or Olympic medals in both disciplines. Bonna didn't sell a lot of downhill skis, so these might be a rare example.....

Plastic bottoms, metal edges, and Kandahar bindings. The decals on the top are chipped in places, but between the two skis you can get an idea of what a complete set would look like. Also left in place is a rail baggage sticker proving a trip from Lillehammer!

Platou Sports is a retailer in Bergen that is still around! So I'm sure if you bring these skis in they'll give them a free servicing!! (actually not sure about that ;-))
