Looking for some stability in your life? Well let's start with your vintage skis. This Retki (touring) model will keep you in your feet and moving forward. Helsinki-based Karhu (Finnish for "bear") has equipped skiers ranging from the Finnish army to World Champions such as Harri Kirvesniemi. And soon, you.
This pair of skis hails from the mid 60s. It's seen a lot of use, but the experts at Skifabrikk have worked their magic to clean up the tops and bases. In addition, over the years these skis have been touched up and repaired, so you may notice some slight color differences on the paint. But the logos are in great shape, and the skis have been protected by a coat of satin urethane. The bases have been scraped, sanded, glued, and tarred. Not new, but in way better shape than when they were found in Suomi.
A nice pair of Karhu Kilpa (competition) bindings is mounted. Don't be frightened by their 4-pin design, if you've got a pair of 75mm boots without metal toe plates, then just jam in the boot and slam the bar down, and off you go. Or, update to some modern NNN bindings and use your "normal" ski boots. In the official Rules of Vintage Nordic Skiing, that is totally legal. Just kidding, such rules don't exist but feet are important enough that you gotta wear what works. So you be you.
