Chipped from an iceberg high above Lillehammer, to the protests of the frozen caveman who still had them affixed to his feet ("stop, I say!!"), these skis are nothing if not OLD. I mean, so old that your great-grandmother would think they're old. Built from solid hickory in the days right before the laminated wood ski revolution hit Nordic, they are survivors. Prob 1940s.
Things we know:
- they are Made in Norway, because they say so on the tips. Plus, we purchased them in January '24 from a seller in Lillehammer. Draw your conclusions.
- They were likely "performance" skis. Not terribly heavy, with a low profile only interrupted by the center ridge at the tip middle of the ski that protected against warping (big prob with solid wood skis)
- They used rear-clamp "Tempo" style bindings, most of which are missing (the parts that go around the heel)
- They are super-cool, and the bases have been tarred for protection and because it smells good.
