There was a fleeting moment in the early 1970s when Moon poles were the thing to have. As pole manufacturers around the world struggled to find some artificial, earth-destroying material with which to make lighter, stiffer, composite poles, Moon was slightly ahead of them with their fiberglass offerings and round saucer-like plastic baskets. Plus, there were those orange rollerski poles with the bouncy "shock absorbing" tips, which were heavy and really didn't work all that well.
All that is irrelevant, because these poles hail from the 1960s in the midst of the battle for bamboo supremacy. Bamboo is a remarkable, natural wood (someone smarter will probably correct me that bamboo technically isn't wood) product that is both stiff and very light. So even this day when you use bamboo poles, it's not too much of a lift.
